If the attractions on offer in Wels are not sufficient for your needs, you can also book very affordable cultural tours to Salzburg and Vienna.
Traunsee: The central point is the town of Gmunden. The world famous ceramics, Gmundner Keramik, are produced here. You can buy the goods directly at the factory or just have a browse around. The lake is surrounded by a lot of mountains. The Schloss Orth has become world famous due to a film series. You can go on biking or trekking tours and of course you can hire boats or just book a Traunsee sightseeing tour.
Attersee: This is the largest lake in the Salzkammergut. The lake is surrounded by a number of small villages. Here again you can go swimming, on biking and trekking tours and if you so please go on a boat trip.
Wolfgangsee: On the way to the Wolfgangsee you pass Bad Ischl, a place where Emperor Franz Joseph spent as much time as possible. You can visit the Emperor´s villa with it´s gardens or you can taste the famous Zauner-Stollen, a sweet Ischler speciality.
In the vicinity of the Wolfgangsee is the Schafberg. An old gondola car gets you to the peak of the mountain. From this peak you have a wonderful view of the whole surrounding countryside. In the 1950´s St. Wolfgang became famous due to the film, Das Weiße Rössl am Wolfgangsee´. The Wolfgangsee area is also well suited for swimming, biking and going on trekking tours or on a boat trip.
Mondsee: This is the warmest lake in Upper Austria. This lake is also a popular destination that can boast numerous land and water activities.
Hallstättersee: Right by the lake lays the village of Hallstatt, which is the oldest village in Europe. It is over 4000 years old and has been named as cultural part of the UNESCO Cultural Heritage.
